Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found the proof of Canadian citizenship of Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, when she was nominated by Bangladesh as the World Health Organization (WHO) regional director for South-East Asia.
The ACC stated it at in a release sent to the mass media on Sunday.
The ACC release also revealed Putul's involvement in misuse of state resources and unlawful activities to secure her position as the WHO regional director.
The release mentioned that "there is credible information of corruption against Saima Wazed Putul. It is very disgraceful for the country if such an individual occupies a respectable position in the WHO under Bangladesh's nomination. As a result, there is a possibility that the reputation of Bangladesh is likely to be tarnished at the world stage."
Following the issuance of release, ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain told reporters that an ACC investigation team is assessing the possibility of whether Putul can be brought back to the country.
Earlier, the ACC filed a case against Putul, Hasina, and other family members, alleging fraud and forgery to obtain residential plots in Purbachal.
Later, the ACC sent a letter to the WHO via the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health and Family Welfare to remove Putul from her post.
