Several truck drivers staged a road blockade at Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat district on Saturday, protesting an assault of their co-worker.

The two-hour long demonstration took place at upazila’s Kataltala area from 6 to 8 PM.
The assaulted truck driver identified as Yunus Ali, 35.

During the protest, they blocked the Lalmonirhat-Burimari land-port highway which caused huge traffic congestion.

According to the victim, several youths on bicycle blocked his way at Baura Kathaltala rail intersection and locked into an altercation.

“At one stage, they assaulted me and my wife, took money and fled the scene immediately,” he said.

Hatibandha Highway Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Hafizur Rhamn confirmed the incident and added that the protesters withdrew their blockade after meeting with the law enforcers.
