Bangladesh Premier League

The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) is set to host two thrilling encounters in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) today as Fortune Barishal will take on Sylhet Strikers in the day match, while Rangpur Riders will lock horns with Durbar Rajshahi in the evening clash.

The first match begins at 1:30pm followed by the second game at 6:30pm (BST).

The Strikers, currently at the bottom of the table, still have a slim chance of advancing to the next stage, but their fate depends on a series of miraculous results. Barishal on the other hand, need just one win to secure their place in the playoffs. The Riders have already confirmed their playoff spot, while Rajshahi need to win their remaining two matches by significant margins and hope for defeats Khulna Tigers and Chattogram Kings to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Barishal, led by Tamim Iqbal, have a star-studded lineup but often suffer from inconsistency in their batting department.

However, with players like Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Rishad Hossain and overseas stars such as Shaheen Shah Afridi, Pathum Nissanka, Mohammad Nabi, Kyle Mayers and Dawid Malan, they have the firepower to secure a crucial victory.

For the Strikers, batters like Rony Talukdar, Zakir Hasan, skipper Ariful Haque and Jaker Ali, along with experienced bowlers like Al-Amin Hossain, Sumon Khan and overseas players George Munsey, Aaron Jones, Samiullah Shinwari and Reece Topley, will need to step up and deliver impactful performances to overcome the might of Barishal.

In the evening clash, Riders will be seeking revenge against Rajshahi after their 24-run defeat in the previous encounter.

Riders with a balanced and in-form lineup, boast key players such as skipper Nurul Hasan Sohan, Steven Taylor, Saif Hassan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Sheikh Mehedi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Akif Javed, Nahid Rana and Curtis Campher, all of whom have been in excellent form throughout the tournament.

Rajshahi, under the new leadership of Taskin Ahmed, have seen an improvement in their performances. Taskin, the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 22 scalps, will be crucial in restricting the Barishal lineup. Jishan Alam, Ryan Burl, Yasir Ali Rabbi, Mohammad Haris, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, Sunzamul Islam and SM Meherob will need to give their best effort to replicate their previous success against the Riders.

The SBNCS pitch is known to be a batting paradise, with dew expected to play a significant role in the evening match. Teams winning the toss are likely to opt to chase considering previous matches on the very venue.
