Bangladesh Women's cricket team suffered an eight-wicket defeat against hosts West Indies Women in the 3rd and final match of the three-match ODI series at Warner Park, Basseterre in St Kitts on Saturday. With this loss, Bangladesh not only conceded a 2-1 series defeat but also failed to secure direct qualification for the next ICC Women's World Cup.

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh struggled against a disciplined West Indies bowling attack and were bowled out for just 118 runs in 43.5 overs. The visitors lost opener Murshida Khatun early as she departed for just one run in the second over.

Sharmin Akhter Supta (37), Sobhana Mostary (25), Fargana Hoque Pinky (22) and captain Nigar Sultana Joty (11) were the only players to reach double figures. The rest of the lineup faltered, with Shorna Akter, Rabeya Khan, Nahida Akter and Fariha Trishna all dismissed without scoring.

Karishma Ramharack was the standout bowler for the hosts delivering an exceptional spell of four for 12. Zaida James provided strong support with figures of two for 15, while Cherry-Ann Fraser, Hayley Matthews and Afy Fletcher chipped in with a wicket each.

In response, the West Indies chased down the modest target with ease reaching 122 for two in just 27.3 overs with 135 balls to spare. Skipper Hayley Matthews scored 22, while her opening partner Qiana Joseph contributed 39. Shemaine Campbelle and Deandra Dottin guided the hosts to victory remaining unbeaten on 25 and 33 respectively.

For Bangladesh, Nahida Akter and Marufa Akter managed to pick up one wicket each.

Karishma Ramharack was named the Player of the Match for her outstanding bowling figures of four for 12 and was also adjudged Player of the Series for her eight wickets across the three matches.

Both teams will now turn their attention to the upcoming three-match T20i series starting on January 27 at the same venue.
