NATORE, Jan 25: A workshop on uprooting leprosy from the country within 2035 was held in the conference room of the Health Department in the district on Thursday.
Dr Md Muktadir Arefin, civil surgeon (CS), presided over the workshop.
Dr Shariful Islam, medical officer of the CS office, presented the key-note paper.
He said, the germ of leprosy spreads out through cough, sneeze and air; it is curable; if the attacked person takes treatment in proper time, he will be cured of the disease completely; but if delayed, there is every possibility to be disabled in life.
At present, its treatment is being given at all hospitals in upazila and district levels in the country free of cost. Besides, government is campaigning much to make the people aware about the disease and trying to eradicate it from the country by 2035.
Among others, Dr S M Forhad, skin specialist in Natore Sadar Hospital, and Dr Md Rassel, medical officer, spoke at the workshop.
Two patients Abdur Rahim and Ashraful Islam who took treatment for leprosy and were cured expressed their treatment particulars.
