Students of a primary school are being taught in an area surrounded by polythene and covered with a tarpaulin, all under the open sky in Gopalganj's Kashiani upazila.

The teachers at Hatiara Govt. Primary School are conducting classes this way to protect the students from bad weather including extreme cold, wind, rain and sunny.

This miserable condition has persisted for a long time. The students have been receiving their education in the rain and sun.

The school building was abandoned a long time ago, and the roof's polyester sheets have fallen off. Since it was declared abandoned, education activities have been taking place under a tree beside the school.

School authorities have asked to stop the educational activities in the building due to the risk of collapse.

Luky Sarkar, a fifth-grade student, said " We cannot continue our education properly in this heavy cold, sun and rain. I demand that to build a new building be constructed as soon as possible for our school."

When contacted , Eng. Md Sohel Rana, an officer from the NDC contractor company, could not provide any clear deadline for the construction of a new building.

Palli Biswas, the head teacher of the school, said, "Teaching is being disrupted under these conditions. Teachers cannot use blackboard in the class. The place has been surrounded by polythene to protect against the cold. Overall, students cannot concentrate on their study properly under these horrible conditions."
