Noakhali Jubo League showdown over CA's resignation rumors, 2 held

Police arrested two Jubo League activists for staging a showdown in Noakhal's Chatkhil upazila after believing a rumor on Facebook that the interim government's Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus had resigned.

They were arrested from Bansa Bazar under Mohammadpur union of the upazila around 8 pm on Friday (January 24).
The detainees, Ibrahim Khalil alias Rasel, 42, son of deceased Ruhul Amin of Jamadar Bari in Bansa village under Mohammadpur Union, and Golam Kibaria alias Liton, 45, son of deceased Abdul Malek of Ismail Bepari Bari in the same village, were taken into custody.

The accused will be handed over to Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Saturday (January 25) afternoon.

Earlier, on Friday night at around 8pm, they were detained from Bansa Bazaar in Mohammadpur Union.

According to police and locals, after hearing the rumors about the resignation of Chief Advisor Dr Yunus on Facebook, a group of Jubo League activists staged a showdown on Friday evening at Bansa Bazaar in Mohammadpur Union, causing tension in the area.

On information, police went to the scene and, with the help of locals, arrested the two individuals and brought them to the police station.

Rasel is a member of Mohammadpur Union Jubo League, while Liton is affiliated with the local Awami League politics.

Chatkhil Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Feroz Uddin Chowdhury said, "After hearing about the showdown by 25-30 Awami League activists, police went to the scene. Later, with the help of locals, two individuals were detained and brought to the station. A case is being filed regarding the incident, and they will be shown arrested in the case and presented in Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Saturday afternoon."
