A student of Khulna University (KU) was shot to death by a group of unidentified assailants in the city's Tetultala intersection area on Friday night.
The victim, Arnab Kumar Sarkar, 26, was a master's student in Business Administration Discipline of Khulna University. He was son of Nitish Chandra Sarkar, a resident of Abu Ahmed road under Sonadanga Police Station in the city.
The incident has been confirmed by Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan, head of the Business Administration Discipline at Khulna University.
According to eyewitnesses, Arnab was drinking tea near a tea stall in the intersection around 9:30 PM when several armed individuals arrived on motorcycles. They shot him and fled the scene.
The bullet pierced through Arnab's head. Locals rushed him to the nearby City Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Deputy Commissioner (South) of Khulna Metropolitan Police, Md. Moniruzzaman, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the killing. "We have launched an operation to apprehend those involved in the incident," he said.
