Inspector General of Police ((IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque is confident that all the suicide squad militants will be captured following surrenders and suicides of militants in the recent crackdown by security forces.
"Many violent extremists and suicide squad members have been held while many of them have been killed during drives. Our manhunt is on for the rest," he said at a programme in Mymensingh on Friday.
"We are working together. I hope that those who are in hiding will soon be arested. We will continue our drives until militancy is eliminated," said the IGP.
On Saturday, two female militants surrendered following a raid at Ashkona in Dhaka's Dakkhinkhan. One of them blew herself up later. Law enforcers recovered body of a teenage boy inside the hideout.
The police chief advised parents to keep a close watch on their children to prevent them from turning into militants.
Shahidul said security has been ratcheted up in all the big cities on the New Year's Eve.
He inaugurated a CCTV camera network and a media centre at the office of the Mymensingh Superintendent of Police.
Mymensingh range DIG Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun was present as special guest at the programme chaired by Mymensingh Superintendent of Police Syed Nurul Islam. SP Nurul said 65 kilometres of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway and important spots of the district town have been brought under CCTV surveillance. —bdnews24.com
