The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, or DMTCL, has urged commuters to steer clear of the Gulshan-2 area starting Sunday as work begins on relocating service lines for the Dhaka MRT Line-5 Northern Route.
A notification in this regard was issued on Wednesday by Md Aftab Hossain Khan, the project director for the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Route-5 Northern Route).
According to the notification, the service line relocation work under special management will commence at 8am on Sunday, Jan 26, 2025, near the Gulshan-2 Metro Station area of the proposed Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line-5) Northern Route.
The DMTCL has cautioned that traffic congestion is likely around the Gulshan-2 intersection during the relocation process.
As such, the agency has urged commuters and vehicles using this route to allocate additional travel time and consider alternative pathways to avoid delays.
It has also expressed regret for the inconvenience the service line relocation work may cause to commuters.
The 20-kilometre MRT-5 Northern Route, stretching from Hemayetpur in Savar to Bhatara, will feature 14 stations. Of the total route, 13.5 kilometres will run underground, while the remaining 6.5 kilometres will be elevated.
The elevated sections will span from Hemayetpur to Boliarpur, Bil Amalia, and Aminbazar.
The stations at Gabtoli, Darus Salam, Mirpur-1, Mirpur-10, Mirpur-14, Kochukhet, Banani, Gulshan-2, and Notun Bazar will be located underground, while Bhatara station will stand above ground.
Work on the project commenced on Nov 4, 2023, divided into 10 packages.
According to the DMTCL, approximately 35 percent of the Hemayetpur depot's development under Package-1 has been completed. The tendering process for the remaining packages is ongoing. —bdnews24.com
