Two individuals were injured in separate landmine explosions near Bangladesh-Myanmar border at Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban on Friday.
One of the victims, Ali Hossain, lost a leg in the explosion.
The incidents occurred early Friday (January 24), according to Naikhongchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muhammad Mazharul Islam Chowdhury. He confirmed that the injured have been admitted to Cox’s Bazar Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Ali Hossain, 35, a resident of Ashartali area under ward no 8 of the upazila, was critically injured in a landmine explosion at the Ful Toli border near 47 and 48 pillars. Local residents reported that he had illegally entered Myanmar to bring back cattle when the explosion occurred. The landmine, believed to have been planted by the Arakan Army and Myanmar military, caused severe injuries, including the amputation of his leg.
In another incident, Md. Rasel, 30, from Dhochoi union, was injured in a landmine explosion at pillar no 49 of Myanmar border around 10:30 AM.
Former member of Naikhongchhari Sadar Union Parishad (UP) Shamsul Alam confirmed that locals rescued and hospitalized Ali Hossain following the explosion.
In response to the incidents, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has heightened security along the border.
Naikhongchhari Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Masrurul Haque stated that the both explosions occurred at the Bangladesh-Myanmar border within 6-10 AM and the injured were promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention.
