A teenage girl and a young man were murdered in separate incidents in two districts - Habiganj and Patuakhali.
HABIGANJ: A man reportedly stabbed his daughter to death at his house in Madhabpur Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Ranu Begum, 15, daughter of Abdus Rashid of Ghanashyampur Village.
The deceased's mother Saheda Begum said that Ranu often found talking on mobile phone. Her husband returned home at around 2:30 pm on Wednesday and saw his daughter was talking on the phone. He forbidden Ranu to do so, but she did not make any heed on it.
Being agitated over the incident, Rashid stabbed Ranu with a sharp weapon that was kept on the house yard, leaving her dead on the spot. Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to the Habiganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The law enforcers, however, detained the deceased's father Abdus Rashid and her mother Saheda Begum.
DASHMINA, PATUAKHALI: A man succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Tuesday seven days after being injured in a series of clashes in Dashmina Upazila of the district.
The clashes took place on January 14 and 15 over a temple's land dispute between two rival groups of Krishnatantra and Matua.
The deceased was identified as Debangsu Hawlader, 30, son of Amulya Hawlader, a resident of Guli Awliapur Village in the upazila. He was a follower of Krishnatantra.
Locals said that the previous enmity over the temple's land stemmed the clash between the rivals on January 14 night and the next day morning. During the clash, at least 12 Krishnatantra followers were injured and transferred to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Among them, Devangsu was critically injured and later shifted to the DMCH, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Following the clashes, a Kirshnatantra follower Bhabaranjan Hawlader filed an attempt to murder case with Dashmina Police Station (PS) against Matua's 27 followers and 50 unknown others on January 15.
