DINAJPUR, Jan 22: Police arrested a smuggler along with 12 gold bars from Birampur Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The arrested is Joydeb Mohanta, hails from Adamdighi Upazila in Bogura District.
Police sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Mukundapur Bazar area and arrested Joydeb along with the gold bars.
The estimated market value of the seized gold bars, weighing 1.25 kilograms, is Tk one crore 39 lakh and 18 thousand.
Later on, the arrested was produced before the Dinajpur Court to take legal actions and the seized gold bars were submitted to the District Treasurer Office.
Officer-in-Charge of Birampur Police Station Momtajul Haque confirmed the matter.
