A court in Jashore sentenced former Awami League lawmaker from Jashore-6 constituency Shahin Chakladar to four years of rigorous imprisonment in a corruption case.
The Special District and Sessions Judge Court in Jashore Judge SM Nurul Islam passed the verdict on Wednesday in absence of the convict.
The court also fined Shahin Chakladar Tk 20,000 and ordered to confiscate his property worth about Tk 38,03,685.
The court also issued a warrant of arrest against Shahin Chakladar for the execution of the judgment, said Md Al Amin, Deputy Director (DD) of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Jashore office.
According to the court sources, on March 30 in 2008, the anti-graft watchdog’s Jashore office filed a case against Chakladar for his involvement in concealing wealth worth about Tk 38 lakh.
In his wealth statement, Shahin Chalkladar showed his total wealth of worth over Tk 1.96 crore in which 1.01 crore was loan. But the ACC during its investigation found that he concealed properties worth about Tk 38,03,685.
On January 5 in 2009, ACC submitted a charge sheet against Shahin Chakladar after the investigation into the case.
