The authorities have taken adequate measures to ensure foolproof security for the Ekushey Book Fair 2025, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali.
The DMP commissioner told this while addressing the DMP coordination meeting on overall security, law and order and traffic management for the upcoming book fair at the conference room of DMP Headquarters on Wednesday.
The book fair is scheduled to be held the Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan premises throughout the month of February.
Earlier, DMP Deputy Police Commissioner (Operations) AF M Tariq Hossain Khan presented the overall security plan of the book fair through a power point presentation.
The DMP Commissioner Sazzad said that a sufficient number of policemen in plain clothes and uniforms will be on duty inside and outside the book fair. Besides, necessary CCTV cameras will be installed to monitor in and outside the book fair venue around the clock and there will be a watch tower and fire tenders to provide flawless security, he said.
The Commissioner said that every visitor will have to enter the fair premises through the archway and no one will be able to enter the fair with large bags, cartoons, flammable materials.
There will be a lost and found center, help desk and childcare center at the fair, he said.
Sazzad Ali said that there will be adequate first aid facilities alongside other security measures that include deploying special teams in plain clothes, monitoring social media, monitoring the fair premises with drones and keeping SWAT and bomb disposal teams on standby.
