A man from Jhalakathi district has claimed that the suspect, arrested in connection with the attack on Indian actor Saif Ali Khan, is his son.

Ruhul Amin Fakir, a resident of Rajabaria village in Nalchity upazila, identified the accused, Muhammad Shariful Islam Sajjad, as his second son among three children.
This claim came to light when local residents informed local journalists, prompting them to visit Ruhul Amin's home. During the visit, Ruhul Amin’s eldest son, Salman Fakir, also confirmed that Sajjad is his brother.

According to Salman Fakir, Sajjad lived in Khulna with the family due to their father’s job. During this period, Sajjad allegedly began traveling illegally to India and became involved in criminal activities, including drug trafficking and extortion. Salman stated that Sajjad faced multiple charges, leading the family to return to their village out of frustration. Sajjad, however, seldom visited them and reportedly lost contact after 2017.

Salman further mentioned that Sajjad became a fugitive in 2017 after being implicated in the murder of a motorcycle driver, Rafiqul Islam, near Mollarhat Steel Bridge in Nalchity. Sajjad reportedly fled to India to evade arrest and has not been in contact with his family since.

Ruhul Amin corroborated the timeline, stating that Sajjad illegally entered India in March 2024 and worked at a hotel before being detained. “We have no information on how he entered India,” Ruhul Amin added.

Former chairman of Mollarhat Union Parishad, Abdus Salam, confirmed Sajjad's alleged involvement in the 2017 murder case and other criminal activities, including theft and assault.

When contacted, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle), Md. Mahitul Islam, stated that the local police have not received any formal communication regarding Sajjad's situation in India. However, based on family claims, Sajjad is believed to be the same individual previously implicated in multiple cases of robbery and murder in Nalchity and Dhaka.

Indian authorities are reportedly investigating the incident involving Saif Ali Khan, while questions surrounding Sajjad’s background and movements remain unresolved.
