A Dhaka court has directed to attach the property of former national cricket team captain and former Awami League MP from Manikganj-1 constituency Naimur Rahman Durjoy.
The court directed to attach his 2,523 square feet flat at Lalmatia, a 3-katha residential plot at Purbachal and his three cars.
Besides, the court directed to freeze his 10 bank accounts and two insurance policy accounts.
On Tuesday (January 21), Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, responding to a plea submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)'s assistant director Taposh Bhattacharya. After the hearing, the court granted the plea.
According to the case documents, Durjoy, while an Awami League lawmaker, amassed illegal wealth of Tk 11.21 crore.
Misusing his power, he extorted Tk 4.22 crore from Manikganj Power Generation Limited. Durjoy is also accused of making suspicious transactions of around Tk 94 crore through 22 bank accounts.
The case was filed against him under Section 27 (1) of The Anti-corruption Commission Act, 2004, Section 5 (2) of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, and Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012.
