Man held with 12 gold bars along Hili border

Police have arrested an alleged gold smuggler along with 12 gold bars in Dinajpur's Birampur upazila on Tuesday.

The arrested is Joydeb Mohanta, from Adamdighi upazila in Bogura district.
Birampur Police Station officer-in-charge Momtajul Haque confirmed the recovery on Tuesday.

Police sources said that they have conducted a raid at Mukundapur bazaar area after being tipped-off and arrested Joydeb along with 12 gold bars.

The estimated market value of the seized gold bars, weighing 1.25 kilograms, is Tk one crore 39 lakh and 18 thousand, said the source.

Later, the arrested was sent to Dinajpur Court to take legal actions and the seized gold bars were submitted to the district treasurer office, added the police source.
