After a series of six consecutive losses, the Dhaka Capitals finally secured their second win in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), defeating Sylhet Strikers by 6 runs in a tense encounter at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Batting first, Dhaka posted a competitive 196-run total, thanks to a stellar knock from captain Litton Das, who scored 70 off 48 balls. Sylhet, in response, fell just short, managing 190 for 7 in their 20 overs. With this much-needed victory, Dhaka moved up to sixth place in the points table with 4 points.

Sylhet’s chase got off to a rocky start, with George Munsey (3) and Zakir Hasan (8) departing early. However, Rony Talukdar provided a lifeline for the Strikers, smashing a 44-ball 68 to keep them in the hunt. His innings, laced with boundaries and calculated aggression, ended when Thisara Perera bowled him in the 14th over.

Late cameos from Zakir Ali (28 off 13) and Ariful Haque (29 off 13) revived Sylhet’s hopes, but Dhaka’s bowlers held their composure in the death overs. Thisara Perera and Mustafizur Rahman were crucial, picking up two wickets each, while Mosaddek Hossain and Mukidul Islam also contributed with one wicket apiece.

Earlier, Dhaka got off to a solid start, with openers Tanzid Tamim and Litton Das building momentum. Tanzid’s quickfire 22 off 16 balls ended when he holed out at long-on off Tipu Sultan. Despite losing wickets at intervals, Litton anchored the innings, forming a vital 42-run partnership with Sabbir Rahman (24 off 21).

Litton’s innings, highlighted by precise shot selection and powerful strokes, culminated in a six to bring up his half-century in the 16th over. He was eventually dismissed by Ruhel Mia but had already set the foundation for Dhaka’s imposing total.

Thisara Perera added fireworks at the death with a brisk 37 off 17 balls, supported by contributions from Farmanullah Shafi and Mukidul Islam, ensuring the Capitals reached 196.

The win reignited Dhaka’s campaign, showcasing improved performance in both batting and bowling. As the tournament progresses, they’ll look to build on this momentum in their remaining matches.
