Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained eight individuals, including women and children, while trying to trespass into India through Boro Shoshi border in Panchagarh’s Boda upazila.
The arrests were made late Sunday night in Kazipara border area under the jurisdiction of Nilphamari 56th BGB Battalion, confirmed a press release from the battalion on Monday.
The arrested are Bishwajit Roy, 27, his wife Khushi Roy, 23, and their son Pranavi Roy, 3, from Chandipur village in Dinajpur's Parbatipur upazila; Sri Ratan Roy, 30, his wife Chandana Rani Roy, 28, their son Samar Roy, 10, and daughter Chumka Rani Roy, from Telian village in the district's Kaharol upazila; and Sujan Roy, 21, from Utkura village in Panchagarh's Boda upazila.
The notification reads that acting on a tip-off, a BGB patrol team conducted an operation near sub-pillar no. 6 of main pillar no. 777 inside Bangladeshi territory and detained them. Preliminary investigations revealed that the detainees had contracted with a broker for Tk 130,000 to facilitate their entry into India.
However, the accused claimed that they were trying to go to India to visit relatives' homes.
Sheikh Mohammad Badruddoza, the commanding officer of the battalion, confirmed that the detainees would be handed over to Boda Police Station for legal actions. He also stated that the children had been released to their guardians upon obtaining a written pledge.
