"RSGT Bangladesh Invests $25M in Hybrid Cranes to Revolutionize the Bangladesh Maritime Industry"

Dhaka, Bangladesh - January 15, 2025 RSGT Bangladesh, the first privately-owned container terminal in Bangladesh, is significantly enhancing its operational capacity at Chittagong Port with the investment of over USD $25 million in 14 new hybrid Rubber-Tyred Gantry cranes (RTGs). Manufactured by GENMA-KALMAR in Taicang, China, the RTGs will employ advanced battery-hybrid power technology, which significantly reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions compared with conventional diesel-powered RTGs, and will be equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety, ergonomic, and smart operational features.

"The investment in these new RTGs represents a significant step in our mission to upgrade terminal operations at Chittagong Port, and in the Bangladeshi logistics supply chain," stated RSGT Bangladesh CEO Erwin Haaze.

RSGT Bangladesh signed a 22-year concession agreement with the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) in December of 2023 to operate the newly constructed terminal facility, becoming the first foreign terminal operating company to begin operations in Bangladesh. Initial annual container throughput capacity at the terminal, which welcomed its first vessel call in June 2024, is 250,000 TEUs, with projected expansion to 450,000 TEUs when fully equipped.
