Two men were murdered in separate incidents in two districts - Natore and Jashore.
NATORE: A man was beaten to death by mob being suspected a fish thief in Naldanga Upazila of the district on Monday.
The incident took place in Kasobaria-Ramsharkazipur area of the upazila at around 12:30 am.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannan, 45, a resident of Samasakhalsi Village under the upazila.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) (Investigation) of Naldanga Police Station (PS) Md Monowar Jahan said Abdul Mannan and some others were fishing in a pond in the area at around 12:30 am. Upon sensing this, local people chased them. They then caught Abdul Mannan and beat him up, leaving him seriously injured.
Meanwhile, the pond's owners rushed there and took Abdul Mannan away from the scene and beat him up again. In this state, they handed over him to local Union Parishad Member Zahirul Islam.
Later on, Abdul Mannan's relatives admitted him to Natore Sadar Hospital, where he died in the morning while undergoing treatment.
Legal action will be taken in this regard, the OC added.
CHOWGACHA, JASHORE: Police recovered the body of an auto-rickshaw driver from Chowgacha Upazila in the district on Sunday after two days of his missing and arrested three people in connection with the murder.
The deceased was identified as Sohanur Rahman Rocky alias Sohag Hossain Rocky, 22, son of Liakat Hossain, a resident of Purahuda Village.
Meanwhile, the arrested are: Sohanur Sohan, 17, of Purahuda Village, Shariful Islam Sajal, 17, of Ichapur Village, and Sujan, 15, of Panchnamna Village.
The body was recovered from the Buribhairab River in Berbari area at around 1 am during a joint operation by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and Chowgacha police.
According to the deceased's mother Sayera Begum and his sister Sharmin Khatun, Rocky's phone had been switched off since Thursday night. His father Liakat filed a general diary with Chowgacha PS on Saturday.
Chowgacha PS OC (Investigation) Kamal Hossain said that following the complaint, a joint team from police and PBI began an operation. Using mobile phone tracker, they identified and arrested the three suspects.
Based on their confession, the deceased's body was then recovered from the riverbed.
PBI Superintendent Reshma Sharmin confirmed the detention.
She said, "During questioning, the suspects admitted that Rocky was a childhood friend of Sohan. On Thursday evening, Sohan called Rocky to join him. The four then consumed hemp together after which they killed Rocky by strangulation with the intent of stealing his auto-rickshaw. They buried his body under the riverbed to conceal the crime."
OC Kamal Hossain further said that after filing of a murder case, the arrested were produced before the court.
