Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan stated that research by teachers is significantly contributing to the country's economic, social, and overall development.
Speaking at a ceremony organized by the Department of Research and Extension on Monday, he highlighted the role of innovation in shaping a developed nation.
Research leads to the creation of new knowledge and technology, which are critical to national progress, the Vice-Chancellor said during the Project Completion Acknowledgement 2024, Best Research Publication Award 2023, and Research Project Award 2024-2025 event.
He also acknowledged the challenges teachers face in conducting research, including inadequate funding, lack of infrastructure, administrative workloads, and limited opportunities for publication. However, he encouraged educators to persevere, stating that overcoming these hurdles would yield transformative results.
Prof. Bhuiyan emphasized that research not only benefits the nation but also enhances teaching effectiveness. Research equips teachers with updated knowledge and problem-solving skills, making learning more engaging and equipping students with the ability to address complex challenges, he added.
The event was chaired by Prof. Dr. Sajal Chandra Banik, Director of the Department of Research and Extension. Other distinguished attendees included: Prof Dr Sudip Kumar Paul, Dean, Faculty of Urban and Environmental Engineering, Prof Dr Mohammad Shamsul Arefin, Dean, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Prof Dr Kazi Afzalur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Prof Dr Muhammad Rashidul Hasan, Dean, Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Lecturer Kazi Kamrun Nahar, Department of Nuclear Engineering.
The program celebrated the successful completion of 19 out of 39 research projects under the Department of Research and Extension. It concluded with the presentation of four Best Research Publication Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions by CUET researchers.
Prof. Bhuiyan expressed hope that the knowledge gained through such endeavors would continue to guide policymakers and institutions in addressing local, national, and global challenges.
