Man beaten to death on suspicion of fish theft in Natore

A man was allegedly beaten to death on suspicion of being a fish thief at Naldanga upazila in Natore.

He died in a mob beating on the bank of a pond in Kasobaria-Ramsharkazipur area of the upazila around 12:30 am on Monday (January 20).
The deceased, Abdul Mannan, 45, was a resident of Samasakhalsi village under Naldanga upazila.

Naldanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC, Investigation) Md. Monowar Jahan, quoting locals, said at around 12:30 am, Abdul Mannan and some others were fishing in a pond in that. Upon sensing this, local people chased him, caught Abdul Mannan and beat him up, seriously injuring him. Meanwhile, Abdul Mannan's companions fled.

Meanwhile, the pond's owners, who had been farming fish on lease, also arrived at the scene. They took Abdul Mannan away from the scene and beat him up again. In this state, they gave handed over him to local UP member Zahirul Islam.

Later, Abdul Mannan's relatives admitted him to Natore Sadar Hospital. He died there in the morning while undergoing treatment.

Legal action will be taken in this regard, the OC added.
