Four people including a woman were murdered in separate incidents in three districts - Moulvibazar, Noakhali and Narayanganj.

MOULVIBAZAR: A man and a woman were killed in separate incidents in Barlekha and Kulaura upazilas of the district on Saturday.

A local leader of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubodal was stabbed to death in Barlekha Upazila in the evening.

The incident took place at Badda Bazar in the upazila at around 7 pm.

The deceased was identified as Noman Ahmed, 35, son of Lechu Mia, a resident of Rangginagar Village under Sujanagar Union in the upazila. He was the general secretary of Ward No. 1 unit of Jubodal in the union.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) (Investigation) of Barlekha Police Station (PS) Jahirul Islam said that two miscreants stabbed Noman on the chest and left the place while he was standing in Badda Bazar in the evening, leaving him critically injured.

Locals then rescued the injured and took him to Barlekha Upazila Health Complex. Later on, he was referred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital following the deterioration of his condition, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead, said the police official.

Police suspected that Noman might have been killed over a money transaction related dispute.
However, the law enforcers are trying to arrest those involved in the incident, said the OC, adding that stern action would be taken after identifying them.

On the other hand, a woman, who was beaten up following a dispute over repaying loan money in Kulaura Upazila of the district on Friday night, died on Saturday noon.

The deceased was identified as Nazma Begum, 40, wife of Fakhru Mia, a resident of Rajnagar area under Prithimpasha Union in the upazila.

Quoting the deceased's family members, Kulaura PS OC Md Golam Apsar said that one Sohag Mia of the area took Tk 7 lakh loan from Nazma about a couple of months back. Arbitration was also placed over the issue, where Sohag promised to return the money soon. But as several days have been passed and he did not return the money, Nazma went to his house on Friday night and demanded the repayment.

At that time, an altercation took place between them, and at one stage of the altercation, Sohag beat up Nazma, leaving her seriously injured. On Saturday morning, as Nazma's condition started deteriorating, the family members tried to admit her to Kulaura Upazila Health Complex. Later on, she succumbed to his injuries at noon on the way to the health complex.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

However, the law enforcers have detained the accused Sohag Mia in connection with the incident and produced him before the court, the OC added.

The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahman Ridoy, 24, son of Selim, a resident of Hajipur Village under the municipality.
