Court orders seizure of tax files of Nowfel,Sima Hamid

A court in Dhaka has ordered to seize tax files of former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, and Sima Hamid, wife of former state minister for power, energy, and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the orders on Sunday, allowing two separate petitions, filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the ACC petitions, Nowfel has amassed illegal wealth of Tk 2.27 crore and transacted Tk 113.89 crore through 41 bank accounts. It also said that Nowfel has transferred and transformed the properties to hide his source of income.

In another petition, the ACC alleged that Sima is accused of acquiring illegal wealth of Tk 6.98 crore and also accused of making suspicious transactions of Tk 12.77 crore through her 20 bank accounts.
