Former Jatiya Party (JaPa) MP Col (Retd) Dr Abdul Kader Khan who was sentenced to death in the murder of Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) Awami League MP Manjurul Islam Liton, died on Sunday (January 19) while underwent treatment.
Kader Khan was 78.
He died at about 4:30am on Sunday while underwent treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital in Dhaka.
His nephew Habibur Rahman who is an assistant professor at a private college in Gaibandha confirmed about the death of Dr Abdul Kader Khan.
He said Col (Retd) Abdul Kader Khan was admitted to the BSMMU Hospital in Dhaka after he suffered a stroke at Keraniganj prison on October 9 last year. As his physical condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the BSMMU on October 13. On October 15, he was placed under life support.
Habibur Rahman said Dr Kader Khan died at about 4:30am on Sunday. He left behind his wife and a son. Both of them are doctors.
It may be mentioned that in the evening of December 31, 2016, Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) Awami League MP Manjurul Islam Liton was killed in firing by miscreants at his own house at Masterpara of Bamondanga under Sundarganj upazila in Gaibandha district.
Later, Liton's elder sister Fahmida Kakoli Bulbul filed a case with Sundarganj police station in connection with the murder. Five to six unidentified individuals were shown accused in the case.
Later on December 5, 2019, Gaibandha District and Sessions Judge Court's judge Dilip Kumar Bhowmick sentenced seven accused including former MP Col (Retd) Dr Abdul Kader Khan to death.
Besides, the court sentenced Abdul Kader Khan to life imprisonment in another case filed under the Arms Act in connection with Liton's murder.
