The death toll from attacks by ELN rebels in Colombia has risen to 60 in the country's northwest Catatumbo region near the border with Venezuela, the Ombudsman's Office reported Saturday.

"Around 60 people have died violently" in several municipalities across Catatumbo, the organization said on social media platform X after the rebels started clashing with dissident members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) across several villages. The office had previously reported 40 dead.
