A woman and a man were murdered in separate incidents in two districts - Cox's Bazar and Jamalpur.
COX'S BAZAR: A housewife was killed by her husband in Chakaria Upazila of the district on Friday noon.
The incident took place at Ward No. 9 under Chakaria Municipality at around 2:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Haifa Tuhi, 18, daughter of Abdul Hamid, a resident of the area.
The accused husband is Sawkat Hasan Mehedi, 23, a resident of Fasiakhali area in the upazila.
The deceased's father Abdul Hamid said, "They married to each other eight months back. Since then, Mehedi used to torture Haifa for dowry. Following this issue, Haifa came to my house as she could not tolerate the torture anymore. On Friday, Mehedi came to my house and stabbed Haifa to death. At that time, her mother was also hacked by Mehedi."
On information, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria Police Station (PS) Md Manzur Kader confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this connection.
SARISHABARI, JAMALPUR: A man was reportedly killed by his rival over a land dispute in Sarishabari Upazila of the district on Friday.
The incident took place in Tarakandi Village under Pogladiga Union of the upazila in the morning.
Local sources said that there had been a longstanding dispute between Apel Mia, son of Tota Talukdar, and Bipul Mia, son of Anwar Hossain, over the ownership of a piece of land in the area. On Thursday, Bipul Mia cut two trees from the disputed land following an order from the police.
As a sequelt to it, Apel Mia along with his family members attacked on Bipul Mia and his wife Mukta Begum and mother Ashma Begum on Friday, leaving the trio critically injured.
Later on, the family members rescued the injured and took them to Sarishabari Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Bipul Mia dead.
Mukta Begum was transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
However, the law enforcers have detained Anwara Begum, mother of Apel, in connection with this incident.
Sarishabari PS OC Chand Mia confirmed the incident, adding that police are trying to arrest the other accused.
