In a low-scoring encounter at the YSD-UKM Cricket Oval, Bangi in Malaysia the Bangladesh Women's Under-19 team secured a five-wicket victory over their Nepalese counterparts in the 4th match of Group D at the ICC Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup on Saturday.

Winning the toss, Bangladesh elected to field inviting Nepal to bat first. The Nepalese batters struggled against a disciplined Bangladeshi bowling attack and managed to post only 52 runs before being bowled out in 18.2 overs. Opener Sana Praveen top-scored with 19 runs off 32 balls, while Seemana KC contributed 10 runs. The rest of the batters departed for single-digit scores.

Bangladesh's bowlers were relentless, with Jannatul Maoua leading the charge claiming two wickets for 11 runs in her four overs. She was well-supported by Nishita Akter Nishi, Anisa Akter Soba and Fahomida Choya, who each took a wicket while maintaining economical spells.

Chasing a modest target of 53, Bangladesh encountered early setbacks losing three wickets for just 11 runs as Sumaiya Akter Suborna, Fahomida Choya and Juairiya Ferdous were dismissed for four, one and two runs respectively. However, a stabilizing 30-run partnership between Sadia Islam and skipper Sumaiya Akter brought composure to the innings. Sadia scored 16 runs off 24 balls, while Sumaiya contributed 12 runs off an equal number of deliveries. After the dismissals of both set batters, Afia Ashima and Jannatul Maoua wrapped up the game remaining unbeaten on nine and five runs correspondingly. The Girls in Green and Red thus, reached the target in 13.2 overs finishing at 53 for five.

For Nepal, Rachana Chaudhary, Riya Sharma, Seemana KC and Puja Mahato each claimed a wicket but their efforts were insufficient to defend the low total.

Jannatul Maoua was deservedly named the Player of the Match for her all-round contribution with both bat and ball.
Bangladesh will face Australia on January 20 and Scotland on January 22 in their next group matches. The top three teams from the group will qualify for the Super Six round.
