Mohammedan edge past Brothers Union in BPL

Mohammedan Sporting Club maintained their winning run in the Bashundhara Group Bangladesh Premier League football beating Brothers Union Club by 1-0 goal held at Birshreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Friday.

In the day's match, Sunday Emmanuel scored the all-important goal for Mohammedan in the 12th minute of the match.

Brothers Union Club, however, tried their best to stage a fight back in the match, but they could 
not score any in the remaining proceeding.

The day's win saw the traditional black and white Motijheel outfit Mohammedan raised their tally to 24 points from eight matches while the all-orange Gopibagh outfit Brothers Union remained at their previous collection of 14 points playing the same number of matches.

Mohammedan and Brothers Union will play their last round matches against Fakirerpool Young Men's Club and Abahani Limited Dhaka on January 24 and 25 respectively.

Earlier, Mohammedan beat Dhaka Wanderer Club 6-0 and edged past Bashundhara Kings and Abahani Limited Dhaka by an identical margin of 1-0 goal, defeated Bangladesh Police Football Club by 3-1 goals, beat Fortis Football Club by 1-0 goal, thrashed Chittagong Abahani Limited by 5-1 goals and defeated Rahmatganj by 3-1 goals.

Brothers Union Club earlier beat Bangladesh Police Football Club 2-1, played 1-1 draw with Fortis Football Club, blanked Chittagong Abahani Limited 2-0, lost to Rahmatganj by 3-1 goals, played out to a 1-1 goal draw with Kings, blanked Fakirerpool by 3-0 goals and defeated Dhaka Wanderers Club by 4-1 goals.

Saturday's matches: Abahani Limited Dhaka vs Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society at Munshiganj Stadium (2.45 pm) and Bashundhara Kings vs Fortis Football Club at Bashundhara Kings Arena (2.45 pm).    —BSS
