Nick Pothas, the assistant coach and fielding specialist of the Bangladesh national cricket team, has stepped down from his role with a year remaining on his contract. The South African coach cited personal family matters as the reason for his decision to end his tenure with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

"Well, like all good things, this too must come to an end. I've had an amazing time with some great people while with bcb_tigers_official. We've broken many records along the way, made history, and created amazing memories. Now to spend some quality time at home and see what the next chapter holds. I wish all at Bangladesh Cricket the very best for an exciting year ahead. I'll miss you," Pothas wrote in an Instagram post on Friday.

BCB's Cricket Operations Manager Shahriar Nafees confirmed that Pothas had communicated his decision to leave during the West Indies series last December. "He informed us of his family-related reasons and expressed his inability to continue with the team," Nafees stated.

Pothas joined the Bangladesh coaching staff on April 6, 2023 on a two-year contract. His deal was later extended by an additional year keeping him with the team until March 2026.

During his tenure, Pothas worked closely with the players and contributed to several record-breaking performances. His collaboration with former head coach Chandika Hathurusingha was particularly noteworthy. Hathurusingha's dismissal in last October and the addition of Mohammad Salahuddin as Senior Assistant Coach during the West Indies tour. Eventually, role of Pothas was shifted from assistant coach to fielding coach as part of a restructuring within the coaching unit and the West Indies series was the last assignment for Pothas as part of the Bangladesh team.
