A woman and a young man were murdered in separate incidents in two districts - Moulvibazar and Narsingdi.
KAMALGANJ, MOULVIBAZAR: A woman was stabbed to death by her brother-in-law in Kamalganj Upazila of the district on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Karima Begum, 42, wife of Mortu Mia, a resident of Purbapara No. 2 area of Patrakhola Tea Garden under Madhabpur Union in the upazila.
It was known that Karima Begum had a previous enmity with her brother-in-law Manzur Mia. As a sequel to it, Manzur entered the betel nut shop of his sister-in-law in the area at around 7 pm, and stabbed Karima several times with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured.

As local people rushed to the scene after hearing her scream, Manzur fled away. Locals then took Karima to Kamalganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.

Physician of the health complex Dr Kanak Kanti Sinha said that the woman had died before being brought to the hospital.
However, the law enforcers have detained the accused from Jangalia area of Alinagar Union.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kamalganj Police Station (PS) Syed Iftekhar Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this connection.

NARSINGDI: A young man was shot dead and another injured in a clash between two groups of BNP over taking control of cable TV and scrap business at Madhabdi in the district on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Monju Mia, 22, son of Abdur Rashid, a resident of Poularnpur area under Madhabdi PS. He was an employee of Bakhtiar's cable TV and scrap business.

Injured Bakhtiar Hossain is the president of Meherpara Union unit of Tanti Dal, and also the younger brother of Iftikhar Alam Babla, president of Meherpara Union Jubodal.

Quoting locals, Narsingdi Sadar PS OC Amdadul Hoque said that there was a longstanding rivalry over controlling cable TV, internet, and scrap businesses between the two factions of Jatiotabadi Jubodal in Meherpara Union led by its President Iftikhar Alam Babla and Joint GS Akram Hossain.

Akram and his associates allegedly assaulted Babla's younger brother Jyoti three days back.

Following this, a clash broke out between the two groups in Shekherchar-Baburhat area at around 8:30 pm on Thursday, where Monju was shot dead and Bakhtiar sustained injuries.

The OC also said that additional police have been deployed in the area and police visited the scene and collected CCTV footage.
