PIROJPUR, Jan 17: Two pedestrians were killed after being hit by a bus in Sadar Upazila of the district on Thursday.
The accident took place at Mollabari Bus Stand on the Pirojpur-Patharghata-Indurkani road under Shankarpasha Union of the upazila in the evening.
The deceased were identified as Md Riad Kazi, 28, son of Shahjahan Kazi of Uttar Shankarpasha Village in Pirojpur Sadar Upazila, and Md Shahin, 35, son of Anwar Hossain, a resident of Parerhat Village in Indurkani Upazila. They were brothers-in-law in relation.
Local sources said that a bus of 'Rajib Paribahan' was going to Chandipur in Indurkani of the district from Dhaka. On the way, the bus hit a roadside tree after losing its control over the steering near Mollabari Bus Stand in the evening. At that time, the bus accidentally crushed Riad and Shahin, who were returning home after having tea. Shahin died on the spot and Riad was critically injured.
Later on, locals rescued Riad and took to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies.
The law enforcers, however, seized the bus, but its driver and his helper managed to flee the scene.
Officer-in-Charge of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station Md Sobhan confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.
