The fire that broke out at a tannery godown at Hazaribagh in the capital on Friday (January 17) came under control after two and a half hours of efforts by 12 fire-fighting units.
Witnesses said the fire broke out at a factory of Phoenix Leather on the fifth floor of a seven-storied building at Hazaribagh tannery kancha bazar area at 2:14PM.
Fire Service officials said that upon receiving the incident, two units reached the scene at 2:23 PM. As the fire spread, an additional 10 units joined, bringing the total to 12 units. After nearly 2.5 hours of effort, the fire was brought under control at 4:45 PM.

Fire Service's Public Relation officer Shahjahan Sikder confirmed the matter, adding that the fire broke out on the fifth floor of a seven-storied building. Eight fire-fighting worked to douse the fire first. Later, four more units went to the spot.
However, no causalities were reported in this incident, as the people trapped in the
building have managed to exit safely, said Hazaribagh Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Saiful Islam.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, Director of the Fire
Service, was present during the rescue operation.
Additionally, one platoon of the
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is assisting in the rescue operations.
The extent of the damage caused by the fire has not been determined yet.
