Police recovered two bodies from separate locations in the Dakatia River in Chandpur on Wednesday.

One of the deceased has been identified as Sirajul Islam Gazi, 72, a resident of Bagadi village in Chandpur Sadar upazila. The another body, believed to be that of a 55-year-old man, remains unidentified.
Chandpur River Police Station officer-in-charge AKSM Iqbal confirmed the recoveries.

Sirajul's body was found around noon in the Icholi area by police and Coast Guard personnel. The body showed signs of injuries, including stab wounds to the back of the head and a severed leg vein. "The body appears to have been in the water for 78 days. We are investigating the cause of death," said OC Iqbal.

Sirajul had recently returned to Bangladesh after years abroad and had been living at home. He was reported missing a week ago after leaving for the town, with his disappearance widely publicized in newspapers and on social media, according to local UP member Mosharraf Hossain.

The another body was discovered around 3 PM in the Shahrasti area by a local fisherman, Abdul Khaleque, who immediately alerted the police. OC Abdul Bashar of Shahrasti Police Station stated that the body showed no visible injuries but was bloated and partially decomposed, suggesting it had been in the water for approximately ten days.

A Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) team has begun inquiries into the case, and the body has been sent to Chandpur General Hospital for autopsy.

Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding both deaths.
