Indian national held with 18 gold bars in Meherpur

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an Indian national aong with 18 gold bars from Mujibnagar border area in Meherpur District on Tuesday.

The arrested person is Nur Hossain, 48, son of Sonai Sheikh, a resident of Nadia District in India.

BGB-6 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Syed Mohammad Zahidur Rahman said that acting on a tip-off, a team of battalion conducted a drive in Mujibnagar border near pillar no. 104/5 at around 10:30 am and arrested Nur while he was trying to flee the scene sensing the presence of the border guards.

Later on, the BGB men recovered 18 gold bars worth about Tk 2 crore kept in three packets from his possession.

A case was filed with Mujibnagar Police Station in this regard and the seized gold bars were deposited to the Meherpur Treasury office, the BGB official added.
