The Constitution Reform Commission has proposed to drop three, out of four fundamental principles, from the constitution to govern the country.

Keeping the principle of democracy in the constitution, the commission also proposed to accommodate four new principles in the constitution.
At present, there are four fundamental principles in the constitution to govern Bangladesh. These are nationalism, socialism, democracy and secularism. These four fundamental principles were adopted for inclusion in the constitution written in 1972 following the independence of the country through the War of Liberation in 1971.
