A sub-inspector was hacked to death by miscreants in Durgapur upazila of Netrakona on Thursday evening.
The deceased Md Shafiqul Islam, 43, of Bagichapara area of Durgapur municipality, was an SI at the radio department of Jamalpur Police Lines.
Bachchu Mia, Officer-in-Charge of Durgapur Police Station, said that a group of miscreants attacked Shafiqul with sharp weapons at Ukilpara while he was going to a local market around 6:30PM.
Hearing his screams for help, locals rushed to the spot and took him to Durgapur Upazila Health Complex.
Later, he was referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead. Police recovered the body and sent it to morgue for autopsy.
The OC said they have collected CCTV footage.
The CCTV footage showed that some people according to their pre-plan gathered there and hacked Shafiqul with lethal weapons, leaving his critically injured. Locals took him to the upazila health complex. Drives are on to arrest the killers, said the OC.
Shafiqul’s son Rafiul Islam said his father came home from Jamalpur on a vacation on Wednesday evening. He was supposed to take his family to a rented house in Mymensingh on Friday morning. But on Thursday some miscreants attacked his father.
His father had no dispute with anyone and they did not know reason behind the incident, he said
