Banned polythene seized, two traders fined in Pirojpur

PIROJPUR, Jan 8: Authorities seized 12 tons of banned polythene and fined two traders in Mathbaria Upazila of the district during a mobile court operation on Tuesday.  

The traders, Hasan (25) and Mohsin, were fined Tk 1.5 lakh each by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Raisul Islam for illegally storing the banned material. 
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Directorate of Environment and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 conducted the raid in Bahertala, under Mathbaria Municipality, alongside the mobile court.  

Assistant Director of the Directorate of Environment, Nikhil Chandra Dhali, stated, "Despite prior warnings, some dishonest traders continue to store banned polythene. The seized items are valued at approximately Tk 20 lakh."  

Barishal RAB-8 Company Commander Major Shohel emphasised that operations to crack down on such illegal activities will continue in the future.
