Shop employee murdered in Madaripur over debt dispute

A shop employee was reportedly hacked to death by his coworker over a debt dispute in Madaripurdistrict town on Saturday.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening in old market area of the town.
The deceased, Gautam Basu, 25, son of Haran Basu from East Rasti area of the district, worked at Yadav Grit Sweet Shop in the market.

According to reports, a heated argument broke out between Gautam and another employee of the shop, Shree Tapon, over an outstanding payment. During the altercation, Tapon attacked Gautam with a sharp knife, inflicting serious injuries to his neck and throat.

Hearing Gautam's cries for help, nearby residents rushed to his aid and took him to Madaripur Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

The accused, Shree Tapon, a resident of the Shree Saninder area in Sadar upazila, and the victim both were employees at the same shop.

Madaripur Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Al Mamun confirmed the incident and stated that police visited the scene and drives has been launched to apprehend the suspect.
