Six people murdered in 6 districts

Six people were murdered in separate incidents in six districts - Kurigram, Gazipur, Narail, Habiganj, Narayanganj and Jamalpur.

KURIGRAM: A local leader of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubodal was killed by his rivals over a trivial matter at Ulipur upazila in Kurigram district on Friday evening.
The accident took place on the Thana road under Ulipur Municipality at around 7 pm.

The deceased was identified as Ashraful Alam, son of Aynal Haque, a resident of the aforesaid area. He was the joint secretary of the Ulipur Municipality Unit of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubodal.

It was known that Ashraful Alam was attacked by his rivals over a trivial matter in the area in the evening, which left him critically injured.

Locals then rescued him and took him to Ulipur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Ashraful dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ulipur Police Station (PS) Abdur Rashid confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.

GAZIPUR: A man was allegedly killed in a clash over a land dispute in Kapasia Upazila of the district on Friday.
The incident took place in Toknagar Village under Tok Union of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as AKM Abu Taher, 56.

According to locals, a longstanding dispute over property boundaries was going on between Abu Taher and his younger brother Abul Kashem. On January 1, 2023, Abu Taher had filed a written complaint with Kapasia PS regarding the issue. On Friday, tensions escalated when Kashem began cutting down a tree on the disputed boundary. Taher objected, leading to a clash between the families. At one stage, Taher fell on the ground. He was then rushed to a local clinic first, and then, shifted to Kapasia Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Dr Kawsar Ahmed, physician of the heath complex, said that Taher had die before being taken to the hospital.
Kapasia PS OC Md Kamal Hossain confirmed the incident, saying that the actual reason behind the death of Taher would be known after getting the autopsy report.

However, police arrested two people including a woman for questioning and filing of a case is underway in this connection, the OC added.

NARAIL: A union parishad (UP) member was murdered after rape in the district.
The 46-year UP member, elected member for the reserved seat of a union in Sadar Upazila, died at Jashore General Hospital on Friday.

The rapists recorded the video of the rape incident and demanded Tk 2 lakh as ransom to her, claimed the deceased's son.
According to the deceased's family members, one Rakibul called the woman saying to take her money which he borrowed from her.

Then she went as per their direction while Rakibul along with others gang-raped the UP member. They then demanded Tk 2 lakh to her. She warned them to disclose the matter. Hearing this, the rapists fed poison to her. When she returned home, she fell sick and later, was admitted to Jashore General Hospital on Friday morning. She described all the incidents to her son while she was in hospital. She also mentioned name of the rapists.

At around 11 am, the UP member died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Narail Sadar PS OC Sajedul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that police are investigation the matter.

CHUNARUGHAT, HABIGANJ: A man, who was hacked by his rivals over a land dispute in Chunarughat Upazila of the district on Thursday night, died on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Md Mofil Mia, son of late Abdul Ali Chowdhury, a resident of Nicchantapur Village in the upazila.

It was known that there had been a longstanding dispute between Md Mofil Miah and Shanto Mia over government land. Following this, the supporters of Shanto attacked on Mofil in Sukunna Tela area at around 9 pm on Thursday, and hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.

Locals then rescued him and took to Chunarughat Upazila Health Complex. From there, he was shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries early Friday.

NARAYANGANJ: A suspected robber was beaten to death by mob in Araihazar Upazila of the district on Thursday night.

The incident occurred in Kahendi Village under Haizadi Union of the upazila at around 11 pm.

The deceased was identified as Billal, 45.

A woman, named Lovely, 25, also a suspected robber, was critically injured in the incident.

It was known that a group of robbers, consisting of 10 to 12 people, came to a house in Kahendi Village at night to commit a robbery. Sensing their presence, local people surrounded the house. The robbers then tried to flee the scene, but locals caught Billal and beat him to death.

At that time, Lovely jumped into a pond to save her life. Later on, she was rescued and taken to a hospital.

Araihazar PS OC Enayat Hossain confirmed the incident, saying that Billal is an accused of eight different cases including murder and extortion.

However, the investigation is underway whether the arrested woman is a robber or not, the OC added.

JAMALPUR: A man was beaten to death by mob in Islampur Upazila of the district on Thursday night after being suspected as a robber.

The incident took place in Jigatola Village under the upazila at around 9 pm.

The deceased was identified as Shejab Ali, 55.

Confirming the matter, Islampur PS OC Saifullah Saif said that after being informed, police conducted a drive in the area and arrested two suspected robbers Ismail Hossain, 32, and Sorman Ali, 35, along with a pistol and eight rounds of bullets while the rest of their associates got away.

As they were being taken to the PS, the arrestees informed police about a gang member who was critically injured in the mob beating, said the OC.

Police then found Shejab Ali in a critical condition and took him to Islampur Upazila Health Complex. Later on, he was shifted to Jamalpur General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival, the OC added.
