BNP activist shot, slaughtered in Noakhali

The motive behind the murder remains unclear, as the victim's family and police have yet to ascertain the reasons.  

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon near Sujayetpur East Jame Mosque in ward no. 5 of Alaiyapur union of the upazila. 

The victim, identified as Kabir Hossain alias Sali Kabir, 35, was son of late Nur Nabi and a resident of Sujayetpur village.  

According to reports, Kabir was an active local BNP worker with several cases filed against him. He had returned to the area on August 5 after being away for some time. On the day of the incident, he attended the Jummah prayers at the mosque. After completing the obligatory prayers, Kabir left the mosque to return home.  

At that moment, a group of 5�6 masked assailants arrived at the scene in a CNG-powered autorickshaw. As Kabir stepped out of the mosque, the attackers opened fire, hitting him in the head and causing him to collapse on the ground. 

The assailants then proceeded to sever the tendons of his left leg and slit his throat, ensuring his death before fleeing the scene.  

Noakhali Police Superintendent (SP) Abdullah Al Faruk confirmed the incident, stating, "Police have inspected the scene and efforts are underway to uncover the mystery behind this heinous crime. We hope to determine the motive soon."
