Govt okays buying 2 cargos LNG, 120,000 tonnes of fertilizer

 
The Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) on Thursday approved separate proposals for procuring two cargos of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and1,20,000 tonnes of fertilizer to meet the country's growing demand.

A LNG cargo is equivalent to around 3.36 million mmBtu (metric million British thermal units).

It has also approved proposals for procuring rice, lentil and edible oil to address domestic demands and stabilize markets.
The meeting was held at the Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat in the city on Wednesday. Adviser to the Ministry of Finance Dr Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting.

The meeting sources said following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla would procure one cargo LNG from the spot market from M/S Total Energies Gas and Power Limited, Switzerland through international quotation at around Taka 672.23 crore with per MMBtu LNG costing $14.25.

In another proposal, Petrobangla would procure another Cargo from the spot market from M/S Total Energies Gas and Power Limited, Switzerland through international quotation at around Taka 654.30 crore where per MMBtu LNG would cost $13.87.

Besides, Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure some 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Qatar Energy Marketing, Qatar at around Taka 122.15 crore with per ton fertilizer costing $339.33.

Following another proposal, BCIC would procure some 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) at around Taka 120.19 crore with per ton fertilizer costing $333.88.

In response to another proposal BCIC would procure some 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from SABIC Agri-nutrient Company, Saudi Arabia under at around Taka 122.15 crore with per ton fertilizer costing $339.33.

Besides, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would procure 30,000 tonnes of TSP fertilizer under state-level agreement from OCP NUTRICROPS SA, Morocco at around Taka 152.46 crore where per ton fertilizer would cost $423.50.

Following a proposal of the Ministry of Food, the Food Authority would procure 50,000 tonnes of non-Basmati boiled rice through an international open tender from M/S Bagadiya Brothers Private Limited, Indian at a cost of Tk 274 crore, with each tone priced at $456.67.

The state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) would procure some 10,000 tonnes of lentil from Sheikh Agro Food Industries under local Open Tender at around Taka 95.40 crore where per Kg lentil would cost Taka 95.40.

The TCB would also procure 1.10 crore litres of soybean oil under local OTM for the current fiscal year from City Edible Oil Limited at around Taka 189.47 crore at a price of per litre oil fixed at Taka 172.25.
