A mild cold wave has gripped three districts, including Rajshahi and Panchagarh, to mark the onset of winter. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has predicted that the cold wave may intensify and persist for two to three more days.

On Friday, the mercury in Panchagarh's Tentulia dipped to 8.4 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature in the country, according to the Met Office.

"The cold wave will spread further. Temperatures will drop over the next two days. After three to four days of a slight rise, temperatures will drop again. The presence of fog will make it feel colder," Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid said.

The forecast said that a mild cold wave is currently affecting Panchagarh, Rajshahi and Chuadanga districts and may continue.

Over the last 24 hours, Rajshahi saw a minimum temperature of 9.7 degrees Celsius, while Chuadanga recorded 9.8 degrees Celsius.

In Dhaka, the lowest temperature on Friday was 15 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the highest temperature in the country was 29.3 degrees Celsius in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf.

The BMD also noted that temperatures across the country, both during the day and at night, are likely to drop slightly.

Moderate to dense fog may form in some areas from midnight until noon.

According to the BMD's long-term weather forecast, one or two mild to moderate cold waves are expected to sweep through the western and northern regions of the country this month.

A severe cold wave occurs when the minimum temperature drops below 6 degrees Celsius over a large area. Temperatures between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius indicate a moderate cold wave, while temperatures between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius signify a mild cold wave.
