GOPALGANJ, Dec 13: An elderly man and a teenage boy were electrocuted in separate incidents in Sadar and Tungipara upazilas of the district on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Md Abul Hossain, 65, a resident of Babargati Village under Majhigati Union in Sadar Upazila, and Sohel Shikder, 19, son of Anwar Hossain Shikder of Ward No. 7 Gimadanga area under Tungipara Municipality.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station (PS) Meer Sajedur Rahman said that Abul Hossain came in contact with live electricity at night while he was fixing an electric bulb in the house, which left him critically injured.
Sensing the matter, the family members rescued him and took to Gopalganj General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the man dead, the OC added.
Meanwhile, Tungipara PS OC Khorshed Alam said that Sohel came in contact with live electricity while trying to steal transmitter from an electric pole in BADC Irrigation Project at Gimadanga Purbapara under Patgati Union on the same night. He died on the spot.
Locals then spotted the body and informed the matter to the police.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Gopalganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the OC added.
