Narsingdi Freedom Day was observed on Thursday in a befitting manner.
The district administration organized different programmes marking the Day.
A colourful rally was brought out from District Shilpakala Academy at around 11 am, and it ended on the deputy commissioner's (DC) office premises after parading main streets of the district town.
After the rally, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the DC office.
Narsingdi DC Mohammad Rashed Hossain Chowdhury, Superintend of Police Mohammad Abdul Hannan and valiant freedom fighters (FFs) of the district, among others, addressed the discussion.
The DC described the FFs as the greatest sons of the soil saying that Bangladesh emerged as an independent and sovereign country for the immense sacrifices of the valiant sons.
In 1971, the Pakistani army carried out a brutal massacre in various places in Narsingdi District. In the face of strong resistance from the FFs, Narsingdi District was completely liberated from the Pakistani enemy on December 12 of that year.
For nine months long, 116 brave sons of the district were martyred after participating in hundreds of skirmishes in various places in the district and falling victim to the brutality of Pakistani soldiers.
