JASHORE, Dec 13: Four hundred and sixty eight metric tonnes of potato have been imported from India. A goods carrying train reached Benapole Land Port Railway Station on Thursday evening with the imported potatoes. The consignment of potatoes will be released on Saturday.
Benapole Land Port's clearing and forwarding agent Alam & Sons' representative Nazmul Arefin Jhony said that 468 metric tonnes of potato have been imported from India. Documents will be submitted to the Benapole Customs House on Saturday to get release the consignment. After completion of all necessary procedures at the Customs and Railway Station, the consignment will be uploaded at Benapole Land Port or Naoapara. From Naoapara, the potatoes will be sent to different areas of the country including Dhaka and Chattogram.
Benapole Railway Station Master Saiduzzaman said that Tata Traders, an importing firm of Chapainawabganj District, imported the potatoes. Atif Exports, an exporting firm of Malda of India, exported the consignment. Some 9,460 bags of potatoes, weighing about 4,68,000 kilograms, have been brought by a train. The import price of the consignment of potatoes is US$ 10,07,640.
