The Chamber Court of the Appellate Division on Thursday stayed a High Court order that granted ad-interim bail for three months to actress Shomi Kaiser, also former president of the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), in an attempted murder case filed with Dhaka's Uttara North Police Station in connection with an incident during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.
Justice Md Rezaul Haque, Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the SC, passed the order following a petition filed by the state seeking to stay the High Court order.
The apex court Chamber Judge also sent the state's petition to its full bench for hearing the matter on January 6 next year.
Shomi Kaiser cannot get released from the jail following the SC chamber judge's order, her lawyer Hamidul Misbah said.
On December 10, the HC granted three months' ad-interim bail to Shomi Kaiser, who was arrested on November 6, and also issued a rule asking the state to explain why she should not be granted regular bail in the case.
The HC bench comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain granted the bail after Shomi submitted a petition seeking bail in the case.
