Doctors who did not pass the residency course admission tests at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) staged a protest demanding readmission on Thursday.
During the protest, they besieged Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Shahinul Alam and members of the university Syndicate.
While the 94th Syndicate meeting was ongoing at the Fazilatunnesa Mujib Convention Hall at Shahbagh, Dhaka, medical officers employed at BSMMU surrounded the venue and chanted various slogans.
It is learnt that these doctors, who claim to have been 'deprived' during the tenure of the previous government, are now demanding readmission through special consideration.
Witnesses said that during the 94th Syndicate meeting of the university, a group of protesters suddenly entered the convention hall, storming the area.
The protesters argued that despite passing the exams in previous years, they were unable to secure admission. Some were unable to take the exam altogether.
They believe they were victims of discrimination for various reasons. As a result, they demanded that they be allowed to attend the programme after being deemed successful in the exams.
